About Internship
INTERNSHIP PERIOD AND INTERNSHIP PERIODS
Internships in the Department of English Translation and Interpreting are carried out for a total of 30 working days in the summer months after the second semester.
Regular education students who do not have to attend the courses they are registered for can also do their internships during the academic semesters.
A week is considered as five working days in internship programs. Saturday is also considered as a working day in workplaces where work is done on Saturday.
Official and religious holidays are not considered as working days.
Summer term internships start from the last day of the final exams at the end of the spring semester.
Students who will take make-up exams and take courses in the summer education program are responsible for attending classes, exams and internships. Any excuses of the student do not eliminate these obligations.
Internships are completed without interruption for the specified periods. Sickness reports up to five working days and absences up to three working days deemed appropriate by the workplace internship officer are accepted as excuses.
Students who do not attend their internship for at least nine working days with or without an excuse are considered not to have done an internship at all.
The number of working days equal to the period of excused/unexcused absence is added to the internship period. In this case, additional insurance is made for the missing days upon the student's application. If the student or the internship site does not notify this situation, the responsibility belongs to them.
Additional insurance is not made for students who extend the determined internship period voluntarily.
Students who do not have an internship requirement in their education plans cannot apply for an optional internship.
DETERMINATION OF INTERNSHIP PLACES
The responsibility of finding an internship place belongs to the student. The relevant department/program head or internship coordinator decides whether the internship place found and suggested by the students is suitable.
The internship places and student quotas allocated by public or private institutions and organizations in Turkey and abroad for Istanbul Gelişim University are coordinated by the department/program head.
Students can also do their internships in research centers or units within the university if the relevant units approve.
INTERNSHIP APPLICATION
Students who will apply for the internship fill out three Compulsory Internship Forms and have them approved by the dean/director or assistant of the relevant units, department head or assistant and internship location officer, and then have three forms approved by the Student Affairs Office at least seven days before the internship start date in order for insurance entry procedures to be carried out, and submit one of the approved forms to the Student Affairs Office, one to the Program/Department Head and one to the institution where they will do their internship. All insurance procedures for the dates specified in the form by students whose application forms are approved are carried out by Istanbul Gelişim University.
The university does not carry out any insurance procedures for students who are accepted for internship from abroad and who document that they have private health insurance during their internship, and for students who are permitted by the relevant boards of directors to do their internship by benefiting from the Erasmus+ internship mobility.
Students who start their internship report their internship activities daily in an internship notebook accessible from the web page, and after having each page of this notebook approved by the workplace officer at the end of the internship, they submit the internship notebook to the internship coordinator.
EVALUATION OF THE INTERNSHIP
The Internship Committee examines and evaluates all documents related to the internship notebooks submitted to it and records the evaluation results in the internship evaluation form.
As a result of the evaluation, it may request correction of the student's internship notebook within one month at the latest or may reject it.
A copy of the evaluation form related to the rejected and unapproved internship notebooks is delivered to the student by the internship coordinator against signature.
The appropriate and approved internship notebooks and evaluation forms are delivered to the internship coordinator with a report.
The internship documents of the students who are allowed to do an internship abroad by the relevant board of directors are examined by the internship evaluation committee and the results are reported to the dean's office or directorate together with the internship evaluation form through the relevant internship coordinator.
Students whose internship notebooks are not approved apply to the Student Affairs Department within five business days from the date the evaluation forms are notified to them or the date their success grades are announced.
Students who do not complete their internship studies within the education period stipulated by the Higher Education Law No. 2547, whether they have a legitimate and valid excuse or not, will not be awarded a diploma.
During the internship, students must comply with the provisions of the Higher Education Institutions Student Disciplinary Regulation. Students who violate these provisions will be deemed to have completed their internships and disciplinary action will be initiated against them.
Students are subject to the responsibilities of the workplace staff for any damages they may cause to the internship location due to their faults, Istanbul Gelisim University.
