The aim of the Department of English Translation and Interpreting is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to translate written, consecutive and simultaneous translations from English to Turkish with full command of English and Turkish languages, to work as translators in all institutions that need translation, to be knowledgeable, eager to research and learn, and to be interested in current issues, To train graduates who are aware of intercultural relations, who have knowledge about the expectations and conditions of the sector, who can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in translation and interpreting with scientific methods, using the latest technology and observing ethical values, and who are suitable for employment in the national and international translation sector. Our department aims to train translation specialists who are experts in translation and language analysis, who are able to analyze text and discourse, who are able to interpret, translate, use parallel texts and terminology effectively, and evaluate these translations with critical and analytical thinking.

The curriculum usually includes core courses such as translation theory and practice, consecutive and simultaneous translation, term management, and cultural studies. Among the elective courses in the curriculum are legal translation, translation technology, literary translation, technical translation, audiovisual translation etc.
Is internship mandatory in the program?
Yes, there is a compulsory summer internship as an important part of the curriculum. Through this internship, we aim to provide students with experience in places such as translation offices, publishing houses, international organizations, government institutions, law courts or healthcare facilities.
What kinds of resources are available for students?
Students in the English Translation and Interpreting Program have access to a variety of support services and resources. These services include simultaneous translation laboratories, libraries with large collections of linguistics and translation materials, computer-aided translation programs (CAT tools) contracted with the department, etc. can access resources.
Does the program offer additional language classes?
The program offers students different language courses as elective courses. Common languages include Russian, Italian and German.
