Cake Making Techniques were Transferred to Students with Bento Cake Workshop

The "Bento Cake Workshop" event organised by the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts contributed to the development of students' professional skills by providing the opportunity to learn cake making techniques practically.

The "Bento Cake Workshop" event, organized by the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, was held on 21 April 2025 in the G Block Kitchen Application Area. The event was organised by Lecturer Müzeyyen Büşra Sağlam, with the participation of Pastry Chef Esra Pınar Katırcı, an expert in her field. In the event, sponge cake and cream making, wet cake plastering and decorating techniques were transferred to the students practically. The event started with the welcome of the external participant chef and the introduction of the application area. Then, sponge cake and cream making was demonstrated live with the prepared materials and equipment. Students had the opportunity to experience the recipes one-to-one during the applications. With the support of the instructors, wet cake plastering and decorating techniques were also successfully applied. The products prepared during the event were tasted and evaluated by the students. This activity was directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS 4) and Responsible Production and Consumption (SDGS 12), and contributed to both improving students' professional skills and raising awareness on sustainable culinary practices.

At the end of the event, Pastry Chef Esra Pınar Katırcı was presented a plaque of appreciation for her contribution and a group photo was taken in memory of the day.
