Katmerci Zekeriya Usta business owner Mr. Mehmet Nuri Özsimitçi was a guest in the Basic Culinary Techniques II course coded GAS120, which is included in the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department curriculum. The event, organized by the faculty member of the relevant course, Asst. Prof. Ceyhun Uçuk, was held on April 29, 2024 at the G Block Kitchen Laboratory.
Mr. Özsimitçi had his apprentice roll out the katmer dough with the special materials he brought from Antep and conveyed the history of both katmer and the business in this process. After the theoretical information, the katmer making technique was demonstrated practically and the tricks of the trade were shared. After the sample katmer application, the students were asked to roll out the dough individually. Each student prepared their own katmer and then the tasting part was started.
At the end of the event, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Coordinator and Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli thanked the participant and presented him with a plaque. This event provided students with the opportunity to gain practical experience as well as discover the richness of traditional Turkish Cuisine.
