Matbah-ı Amire and Topkapi Palace Tour

Within the scope of the Ottoman Food Culture elective course, our students participated in a cultural tour accompanied by a guide.

IGU FoAS Gastronomy and Culinary Arts department students who took the Ottoman Food Culture elective course with the code GSY435 participated in the cultural trip organized by Lecturer Fuat Sami of the relevant course. Guide Rıdvan Zebil accompanied this tour, which was carried out within the scope of the course.

Guide Zebil gave useful information to the students attending the event about the history and development of Matbah-ı Amire and Topkapı Palace, and their intersection with today's gastronomy. The word "tab" in the term Matbah-ı Amire, which was used for the palace cuisine during the Ottoman Empire, means the place where the cooking process is done. The word "Amire", on the other hand, determines an official title and thus this term appears as an important institution name in the palace organization in the history of Ottoman Cuisine. With the cultural trip, the students had the opportunity to see and evaluate the theoretical knowledge they learned in the course on-site.
