 A Taste of Gastronomy at Istanbul Gelişim University: Danilo Zanna Meets IGÜ Students


Istanbul Gelisim University hosted a special event bringing together Danilo Zanna, a well-loved figure in the world of gastronomy, with students and academics. The Gastrotalks event, organised by the university, provided an inspiring discussion for students interested in the field of gastronomy. The event, which saw a high turnout, was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli, General Secretary of Istanbul Gelişim University. In a warm and dynamic atmosphere, Danilo Zanna shared his experiences regarding his gastronomy career, his perspective on culinary culture, and his advice for aspiring young chefs.


GastroTalks at İGÜ Attracted Significant Interest from Students

The event was attended by Abdülkadir Gayretli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Istanbul Gelisim University, IGU academics, MasterChef 2025 champion Sezer Dirican, and a large number of students. The presence of Sezer Dirican, the MasterChef 2025 champion and an Istanbul Gelişim University graduate, served as a particular source of motivation for the students.

Students aiming for a career in gastronomy had the opportunity to hear from Danilo Zanna, one of the leading figures in the sector.

During the event, renowned chef Danilo Zanna highlighted the key points a good chef must pay attention to, emphasising that the kitchen requires not only technical knowledge but also passion, discipline and culture. Chef Zanna noted that gastronomy is a universal language that brings different cultures together, reminding aspiring young chefs of the importance of continuous learning.

One of the most enjoyable moments of the discussion was when Danilo Zanna shared his thoughts on Turkish cuisine. The renowned chef expressed his admiration for the richness of Turkish cuisine, stating that his favourite Turkish dish is Cağ Kebab.

The Gastrotalks event, moderated by IGÜ Secretary-General and the Coordinator of Gastronomy Departments Assoc. Prof. Serdar Egeli, brought together leading figures from the world of gastronomy with students, whilst also serving as a powerful example of Istanbul Gelişim University’s vision to combine academia with industry experience.
