As part of World Food Day, celebrated annually on October 16th by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a panel discussion on "Food Security, Sustainable Production, and Conscious Consumption" was held at Istanbul Gelişim University.
The event, moderated by Asst. Prof. Nevruz Berna Tatlısu, Head of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, featured Avcılar District Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Abuzer Sağdıç, as a speaker. Dr. Tatlısu also spearheaded the organization of this event within the scope of her duties at the Istanbul Gelişim University Life Sciences and Biomedical Engineering Application and Research Center.
The program, held in the K Block Firnas Auditorium, addressed the relationship between food security and sustainable development goals, the importance of environmental awareness in agricultural production, and the impact of conscious consumption habits on societal well-being. The discussion continued with a question-and-answer session with the students. At the end of the event, a plaque was presented to speaker Abuzer Sağdıç by Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Kamil Kaya in recognition of his valuable contributions, and participants were treated to a traditional aşure dessert.
Dr. Nevruz Berna Tatlısu, Dr. Muzaffer Çakmak, Lecturer İbrahim Levent Demirçakmak, Lecturer Didar Başgöze, Lecturer Revşen Akay, Oğuzhan İstanbullu, and Yiğitcan Yeşil made significant contributions to the successful execution of the event. This event stood out as a step by IGU in supporting sustainability, social awareness, and a culture of conscious consumption.
