Aim of the Department
The Department of English Translation and Interpreting aims to equip its students with advanced translation competence in the English–Turkish language pair while also developing professional-level communication skills in a second foreign language and basic-level communication skills in a third. The program enables students to grasp the grammatical, semantic, lexical, and cultural structures of the source and target languages, and to analyze different text types and render them in a manner appropriate to their purpose.By integrating theoretical knowledge in translation studies with practical skills, the department seeks to ensure that students can make effective use of modern translation technologies and information and communication tools. Graduates are thus trained as professionals who are competitive in the national and international translation markets, committed to professional ethics, and dedicated to lifelong learning.
Objectives of the Department
The program aims for students to attain a level of competence that allows them to manage written and oral translation processes, apply translation strategies effectively, and develop creative solutions to the problems they encounter. Intercultural communication skills and domain knowledge of text types across various fields of specialization are intended to support graduates' versatile translation competence.The program further aims to enable students to transfer interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to their translation work, to take on active roles on national and international platforms, and to sustain their professional development. Accordingly, graduates are expected to play an effective role not only in the translation industry but also in a range of language- and communication-oriented professions.
