History
The English Translation and Interpreting undergraduate program at İstanbul Gelişim University was established in 2019 as a four-year program under the School of Applied Sciences. After two years of instruction within the School, the program continued its educational activities under the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) when the School attained faculty status in 2021.
The language of instruction is English. From its foundation onward, the program's curriculum has been built on three main pillars, interdisciplinary courses, language courses, and translation field courses, and has offered second foreign language electives starting in the fifth semester. Practical training in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting is supported by the department's state-of-the-art Simultaneous Interpreting Laboratory.
Since its establishment, the department has aimed to train qualified translators and interpreters who combine theoretical grounding in translation studies with a strong command of translation technologies, and who are prepared to meet the growing demand for educated language professionals in Türkiye and abroad.
